A new checklist for better planning
From Thursday 1st January 2026, we’ll introduce a planning checklist as part of our improvement programme. This will help us make planning decisions more quickly.

The checklist will explain what developers or land users need to give us at the start of their application. It asks for more than just the form, fee
Alderman James Tinsley, Chair of our Planning Committee, welcomed the new checklist. He said: “Getting the right information at the very start will help us make decisions more quickly on planning applications.
“It will also give applicants more certainty when making investment decisions and let local people see the details used to guide the siting, design and layout of a proposed development. Planning officers will then be able to consult with everyone involved at the same time.”
Council officers spoke with stakeholders and the public to make sure the checklist is fair and meets the needs of applicants and others with an interest in the process.
