Mayor’s welcome
Mayor’s welcome
Welcome to the very first digital edition of CityWide.
Accessing the magazine online means you’ll get lots of additional features – but it’s still a great read if you prefer to pick up a hard copy from your local library or community centre.
It’s that time of year again and I know as Mayor, I’m looking forward to attending some festive events across the council area. From the light festivals to skating with Santa, there’s bound to be something special you can enjoy with your loved ones this Christmas too. For all the details check out our programme and our ‘what’s on’ guide.
Christmas brings joy to many but for those who are ill and for their families, it can be a time of worry and uncertainty. And so during December, I’ll be holding a series of festive fundraisers for my Mayoral charity, Cancer Fund for Children (CFC). I know I can count on your generous support for the great work CFC does - so please keep an eye on our social media pages for more details.
Christmas is a time for sharing food with friends and family, but if you over-indulge and want to walk off that extra plum pud, we’ve some great ideas for winter walks in Lisburn and Castlereagh with your favourite outdoor companion (human or canine).
And talking of staying active, see how a local Lisburn family gets maximum value from their Vitality Membership, with week-long fun and enjoyment for the adults and kids alike.
A special thank you goes to Greens Food Fare in Lisburn for supporting our competition.
I hope you enjoy all the articles and features in this edition of CityWide.
Don’t forget that I and all the councillors are here to help you, so please get in touch if we can provide advice or assistance.
On behalf of everyone at Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council, may I wish all our residents a peaceful Christmas and a happy New Year.
The Right Worshipful the Mayor,
Councillor Andrew Gowan
