Lagan Valley Island shines a light on charities and causes

As a council, we are committed to supporting charities and causes. One way we demonstrate this commitment is by illuminating our civic headquarters in nominated colours, providing a simple yet impactful way to raise awareness and show visible support within our community.

Lagan Valley Island and Union Bridge are illuminated throughout the year to mark important events, campaigns and causes, helping to highlight the vital work being carried out by organisations locally and beyond.

Councillor Brian Higginson, Chair of the Corporate Services Committee, said: “Illuminating Lagan Valley Island and Union Bridge is a visible sign of our commitment to supporting charities and community groups, while raising awareness of causes that matter to our residents.”

Colin McMillan, Chairman of Brainwaves NI added: “Having Council buildings illuminated in support of local charities and organisations is incredibly meaningful. These illuminations help raise awareness, encourage conversations within the community and highlight the valuable work being carried out every day. It is a simple but powerful way to show support and bring people together around important causes.”

Applications for 2027 illumination requests will open later in the year. Further details will be available on the council website and on our social media platforms.
