Visiting the recycling centres
Before your visit:
- Access to the recycling centres is restricted to Lisburn Castlereagh residents only. Please have your photographic ID with proof of address available for inspection on arrival. If your photographic ID does not show your address you should also bring a recent utility bill.
- Only visit if it is essential and you cannot dispose of the waste through your normal kerbside collection service.
- Separate and sort your waste by type at home. It will help save time and allow you to maintain a social distance at all times when at the recycling centre.
- Choose the recycling centre closest to your home and check the opening hours before you leave. It is your responsibility to decide if it is an essential journey to dispose of waste.
- Domestic heating oil tanks are no longer accepted at Household Recycling Centres and the Council will not accept this waste for collection through the Bulky Collection Service. Householders are advised to contact a specialist contractor who are authorised and licensed to collect, store and dispose of the tanks.
- If you or anyone in your home is self-isolating or has Covid-19 symptoms, you MUST NOT visit the recycling centre.
During your visit:
- When you arrive, report to a member of site at the Security Kiosk. Please follow directions from staff and dispose of your waste in the containers indicated.
- Maintain social distancing from other users and staff.
- Ask an attendant if you are unsure about any materials you wish to recycle. To protect our staff they cannot remove any waste from vehicles or assist with placing bags into the waste containers. If you require assistance with your waste you may bring another person from your household, however, only one person should exit each vehicle if possible.
- Recyclable materials cannot be disposed of in general waste skips, only non-recyclable materials can be disposed of in these skips.
- All users must adhere to rules and signage.
- Scavenging of waste is not permitted at any time.
- Climbing on containers or barriers is strictly prohibited.
- Respect our staff, we will not tolerate any unacceptable behaviour. CCTV and/or body cameras will be in operation.
- Please be aware of other road users, if sites are busy try to call back at a different time.
- All household waste should be bagged; other colours of bags will be accepted.
- Garden waste should be loose.
- Recyclable materials, such as cardboard should all be separated and not bagged.
- Wheelie bins cannot be directly emptied into a skip or container.
- To protect the safety of our residents we cannot allow anyone to walk to the facility.
- Children under 12 and pets must remain in the vehicles at all times.
