Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council has launched a new grant fund to help local groups install publicly accessible defibrillators.
The fund is open to constituted sports clubs and community or voluntary organisations based in the Lisburn & Castlereagh area.
Preference will be given to clubs and groups that can install a defibrillator outside their building, ensuring the equipment is accessible to the public at all times.
Eligible clubs and groups can apply for up to £2,500. The grant can help pay for a defibrillator and an external cabinet. It can also cover costs associated with installation and associated power supply.
It also supports defibrillator training, helping to increase the number of appropriately trained individuals in local communities and improving confidence to act until emergency services arrive.
Councillor Sharon Lowry, Chair of the Communities and Wellbeing Committee, said: “Cardiac arrest can happen to anyone, at any time and every minute matters. Many sports clubs and community organisations face financial challenges when purchasing AED equipment and this grant will help remove some of those barriers.
"By supporting the installation of publicly accessible defibrillators, we can help local clubs and community groups provide lifesaving equipment for their members and the wider public.
"I would encourage all eligible sports clubs and organisations across the Lisburn & Castlereagh area to take advantage of this important funding opportunity.”
Applications are now open and must be submitted by 5pm on Friday 16th October 2026.
