A new exhibition titled ‘In Their Own Words’ has officially opened at Lisburn Museum, in partnership with the LGBTQIA+ Heritage Project.
The exhibition explores the stories and experiences of local LGBTQIA+ activists and prominent community members, highlighting their contributions and impact on the region’s social and cultural landscape.
Alongside badges, books, and t-shirt, the exhibition features the ‘Cara-Friend telephone’, a lifeline for many LGBTQIA+ people at the height of ‘The Troubles’. The exhibition is open 9.30-5pm Monday to Saturday, from 5 June-30 August 2025. Find out more at lisburnmuseum.com
‘In Their Own Words’ offers visitors a chance to engage with an important and often underrepresented part of local history, told through personal reflections and lived experiences.
The LGBTQIA+ Heritage Project is led by HERe NI in partnership with The Rainbow Project and Cara-Friend. These organisations support LGBTQIA+ people in Northern Ireland.
