Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council has launched a new paint reuse initiative in partnership with Habitat ReStore Lisburn, giving residents the opportunity to donate unwanted or leftover paint for reuse instead of throwing it away.
The scheme aims to reduce waste, encourage reuse and help local people access affordable paint for home improvement projects.
Alderman Sharon Skillen, Chair of the Environment and Sustainability Committee, said: “I’m excited to see the introduction of this paint reuse scheme. I would encourage everyone to check their cupboards, garages and sheds for any good quality leftover paint that they no longer need.
“By donating unwanted paint, residents can help reduce waste, protect the environment, promote sustainability and support the circular economy.
“We are pleased to be partnering with Habitat ReStore Lisburn. It is a fantastic social enterprise that promotes reuse, reduces waste and supports the local community.”
David Morrow, Manager of Habitat ReStore Lisburn added: “We are delighted to be part of this initiative, helping to make good-quality paint more affordable and accessible for local people while reducing unnecessary waste.
“Working with the Council, we can give usable paint a second life, helping local people improve their home at a low-cost, while supporting a greener, more sustainable community.”
How it works
Each Household Recycling Centre has a donation area where suitable paint can be left. Site staff will assess the donations to ensure the paint is suitable for reuse. Habitat ReStore will then collect and sort the paint, making it available at a low cost through its Lisburn store.
We can accept leftover paint that remains usable and is stored in securely closed original containers.
