Save the date – one of the Council’s most exciting events is returning on Saturday 9 May!

The ever-fabulous Mayor’s Carnival Parade and Family Fun Day will be led by our Mayor, Alderman Amanda Grehan, whose chosen theme this year is “A City That Sees Everyone!”

The Carnival Parade will leave ISLAND Arts Centre at 1pm and promises to bring a vibrant, festive atmosphere to the streets of Lisburn from the very start. With impressive floats, carnival performers, music, and much more, this spectacular line-up is not to be missed.

Schools and community groups from across Lisburn and Castlereagh will take part, having created their costumes and props through art workshops provided by ISLAND Arts Centre. This participation is a hugely important element of the event, perfectly reflecting the Mayor’s inclusive theme.

The Family Fun Day at Wallace Park kicks off at 12 noon, promising a free afternoon of entertainment and activities for all. When the parade arrives at the park (approximately 1.30pm), Mayor Amanda will join the celebrations alongside the revellers.

Little ones can explore a dedicated Kids’ Zone, meet their favourite walkabout characters, and enjoy encounters with friendly animals, while the main stage will host live performances ranging from a high-energy Wicked tribute to nostalgic hits from Jersey Boys and The Femmes.

Visitors can also stop by the Sustainability Village—a dedicated space offering practical, eco-friendly tips and ideas on how we can all work together to protect this beautiful place we call home for generations to come.

With a wide selection of food stalls and plenty of space to relax, the event promises fun for every age. A quiet zone will also be available for those who would like some downtime away from the excitement.

The Family Fun Day will run until 5pm. Please note: only assistance dogs are permitted at the event.

Mayor Amanda has worked tirelessly throughout her term to support her chosen charity, Action Cancer, with truly outstanding results. There will be opportunities to donate on the day—just look out for the bucket collectors in Wallace Park.

Mayor Amanda said of this year’s event: “I am so excited for this year’s Mayor’s Carnival Parade and Family Fun Day – it’s always a highlight of the calendar, and I know this year will be no different.

"With our theme, ‘A City That Sees Everyone’, this event is all about celebrating inclusion, diversity and community spirit. It will be a fantastic way to end my term as Mayor and a day where everyone feels welcome, valued and able to enjoy the celebrations together.”

Councillor Tim Mitchell, Chair of Communities and Wellbeing said, “This is one of the standout events in our city’s calendar and a real showcase of the energy, creativity and diversity of our communities.

"From the colourful parade to the wide range of activities in Wallace Park, there really is something for everyone. I’d encourage everyone to come along, soak up the atmosphere and enjoy a fantastic day out with family and friends.”

The Mayor’s Carnival Parade and Family Fun Day typically attracts thousands of spectators, so arriving early is highly recommended. We’ve been lucky with the weather in previous years—so here’s hoping for sunshine again in 2026. Just in case, don’t forget your sun cream!
