At Christmas, we are reminded of the values that bring us together - kindness, compassion, love, and hope.
Over the past year, I have been inspired by the generosity and strength of people across Lisburn and Castlereagh. From community groups to dedicated volunteers, your support fills our city with warmth and welcome.
My theme this year is inclusivity for disability - a city that truly sees everyone. I am proud of the steps being taken to ensure that all people feel valued, supported, and able to fully participate in civic life.
Supporting Action Cancer has been a real honour. Thanks to your generosity, over £55,000 has been raised so far for breast screening—helping early detection and saving lives.
For some people, however, this time of year can also be difficult. Feelings of loneliness or isolation can be especially hard at Christmas. If you are able, I would encourage everyone to check in on a neighbour, make a phone call, or reach out to a friend. Sometimes, a simple conversation can make a real difference.
I want to say a huge thank you to our emergency and essential workers - NHS staff, carers, emergency services, and frontline teams - whose dedication, often at the cost of time with their own families, is greatly appreciated.
As we celebrate Christmas, many will also reflect on the birth of Jesus, whose message of love, hope, and peace continues to inspire compassion and kindness.
I wish you and your loved ones a peaceful Christmas and a New Year filled with joy, health, and happiness.
Let us continue to hope for a world where peace finds its home and goodwill reaches every heart.
