Lisburn City Centre will once again turn pink this October as businesses come together in support of Action Cancer's Paint the Town Pink initiative during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which is proudly supported by Action Renewables.
First championed by former Mayor Alderman Amanda Grehan in 2025, the initiative quickly became a highlight of the city centre calendar, raising vital funds for Action Cancer while showcasing the generosity and community spirit of Lisburn's business community.
Building on that success, this year's initiative is being led by local businesses, with Susan McAvoy of The Wool Nook coordinating the campaign and recruiting more than 30 city centre businesses to take part throughout October.
Participating retailers, cafés, salons and businesses will be decorating their premises, hosting fundraising activities and raising awareness of Action Cancer's vital services. Funds raised will support Action Cancer's breast screening service for women aged 40-49 and over 70, who do not routinely receive NHS breast screening invitations.
As part of its support, Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council will illuminate city centre lights pink throughout October and install a pink heart selfie station in Market Square, encouraging residents and visitors to show their support and get involved.
Susan McAvoy, The Wool Nook, said: "It has been fantastic to see so many Lisburn businesses get behind Paint the Town Pink once again. More than 30 businesses have signed up to take part, demonstrating the strong community spirit that exists across our city centre.
"By working together, we can help raise awareness, support those affected by breast cancer and generate vital funds for Action Cancer's important life-saving, breast screening services. I would encourage everyone to support the businesses taking part throughout October."
Chair of the Regeneration and Growth Committee, Alderman James Baird, said: "Paint the Town Pink is a wonderful example of a community coming together to support an important cause.
"I would like to recognise the fantastic work of Alderman Amanda Grehan in establishing and championing the initiative in Lisburn. It is particularly encouraging to see local businesses now taking ownership of the campaign and ensuring it continues to grow.
"Council is delighted to support the initiative through pink city centre illuminations and a pink heart selfie station in Market Square. We encourage residents and visitors alike to get involved, support participating businesses and help raise awareness of the important work carried out by Action Cancer."
Action Cancer is also seeking volunteers for its Big Pink Bucket Collection on Saturday 3 October. Volunteers will be collecting donations throughout Lisburn City Centre to help raise funds and awareness for the charity's vital services.
