Throughout October in partnership with local businesses the council will promote the importance of breast screening and help to raise funds for the Mayor’s Charity Action Cancer.
Mayor Amanda, speaking about our ‘Paint the Town Pink’ initiative said: “Cancer has touched far too many lives including those close to us and I’ve seen the difference early detection can make. I am proud of the support from local businesses and the council to visually raise awareness of the benefits of breast screening in our community.
“We want to spark conversations across Lisburn and Castlereagh. So, whether you love our pink lights, the pink ribbons in our trees, our pink shopfronts or our eye catching pink light installation be sure to tell others. The message is simple but life-saving – Be your own breast friend. Get yourself screened and don’t forget men need screening too.”
Across the city centre gateways at Graham Gardens, Haslem Lane and McKeown Street we will be displaying donated bras. The bra is a symbol of support and intimacy, representing the importance of breast health and women's wellbeing.
Councillor Claire Kemp, Regeneration & Growth Chair added: “It is great to see local businesses partnering with our First Citizen. Together a variety of businesses are highlighting the importance of breast screening. I thank those who have agreed to ‘go pink’. When in Lisburn City Centre or our towns and villages be sure to look out for our ‘Paint the Town Pink’ businesses and call in to visit their shops.”
If you would like to donate a bra to highlight the uniqueness of your individual breast cancer journey or that of a loved one then please drop it into our City Centre Management offices at the Irish Linen Centre and Lisburn Museum. All donated bras will proudly be hung in the city centre to highlight the importance of being ‘breast assured…. early detection saves lives’.
