Lisburn has been awarded the ‘Best Kept City’ in the prestigious Northern Ireland ‘Best Kept Awards’ from the Northern Ireland Amenity Council.
The award recognises Lisburn’s high standards of presentation, civic pride and commitment to sustainability, with the city’s floral displays, well-maintained public spaces and active volunteer network contributing to its success.
Councillor Tim Mitchell, Communities & Wellbeing Chairman, said: “It’s tremendous Lisburn has been named Northern Ireland’s Best Kept City.
"This achievement reflects the dedication of our local residents, community groups and council teams who work tirelessly to keep our city looking its best all year round. Their collective effort and pride in Lisburn make it a wonderful place to live, work and visit.”
Alderman Owen Gawith, Environment & Sustainability Chairman added: “This award is a valued recognition of the commitment shown in maintaining the cleanliness and environmental quality of our city.
"Through the efforts of our cleansing teams and wider community initiatives, everyone involved has helped make Lisburn a cleaner, greener and more sustainable city. I extend my sincere thanks to all who contributed to this success.”
Now in its 68th year, the Best Kept Awards were established to encourage communities across Northern Ireland to take pride in their local environment. The awards recognise not only aesthetic excellence but also efforts to promote sustainability, biodiversity, and community engagement.
There was further success for the Lisburn and Castlereagh area, with Annahilt receiving the ‘Welcome Award’, and Moira named runner-up in the ‘Best Kept Small Town’ category.
These accolades further highlight the dedication and community spirit that make the Lisburn and Castlereagh area stand out.
