Today (Saturday 26 September) the Mayor of Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council, Councillor Brian Higginson, hosted a wreath-laying ceremony at Lagan Valley Island to honour Professor Frank Pantridge CBE MC and remember those who served in the Far East during the Second World War.
Organised in previous years by the National Malaya and Borneo Veteran Association (NMBVA), this year’s event was led by the Royal Army Medical Corps (RAMC) Association. The ceremony featured prayers, hymns, military honours, the Last Post and Reveille, and wreaths laid by civic, military and veterans’ organisations.
The Mayor was joined by His Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant for County Antrim, David McCorkell; Chief Executive David Burns; fellow elected members, representatives from the RAMC Association, NMBVA, Royal British Legion, Armed Forces organisations and veterans’ groups.
Mayor Higginson said: “It is a privilege, as Mayor, to host this important act of remembrance for Professor Pantridge and for all those who served in Malaya, Borneo and the Far East. His contribution to medicine continues to save lives around the world, and today’s ceremony ensures his courage, service and innovation are remembered.”
