We're inviting residents, community groups, partner organisations and stakeholders to take part in a 12-week public consultation on our draft Equality Action Plan and Disability Action Plans for 2026–2030.
The draft Equality Action Plan reflects the council’s ongoing commitment to promoting equality, celebrating diversity and ensuring that everyone can access and participate in council services, decision-making and community life. The complementary Disability Action Plan sets out how the council will actively consider ways to promote positive attitudes towards disabled people and encourage disabled people to participate fully in civic, cultural, political and public life.
Together, the plans will support a joined-up approach to inclusion and accessibility across the council’s policies, practices and services. The consultation will run from 6th August to 29th October 2026, after which all responses will be reviewed before the plans are brought forward to council for approval.
Alderman Paul Porter, Chair of Corporate Services, said: “These draft plans underline our commitment to making Lisburn and Castlereagh a place where everyone feels respected, included and able to participate. We want to hear from people across our communities, particularly those who have experienced inequality or disability, so that their views can help shape practical actions for the next five years. I would encourage residents, organisations and partners to take part in the consultation and share their feedback.”
The council is keen to receive feedback from as many people and organisations as possible. Responses will help ensure the final plans are meaningful, achievable and responsive to the needs of people who live, work and visit the Lisburn and Castlereagh area.
