Alderman Owen Gawith, Environment and Sustainability Chair and Councillor Claire Kemp, Regeneration and Growth Chair at Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council are delighted to announce the commencement of works to increase Electric Vehicle (EV) charger provision across the Lisburn and Castlereagh area.
The Council is delivering two EV charger schemes in partnership with the charge point operator, Weev.
The On Street Residential Chargepoint Scheme (ORCS) scheme will provide EV charging options to residents who do not have access to off street parking. The locations have been selected for their proximity to residential areas and will be accessible for overnight charging.
In addition, Council is also delivering a scheme to provide faster EV chargers in carparks throughout the Council area. These chargers will no doubt be welcomed by shoppers and tourists making their visits to Lisburn more accessible.
Alderman Owen Gawith, Environment and Sustainability (Chair) said: ‘The schemes will help remove barriers to EV ownership and improve local air quality, contributing to regional efforts to meet Net Zero by 2050’.
Councillor Claire Kemp, Regeneration and Growth Chair said: ‘Through these schemes the Council is demonstrating its commitment to sustainability and climate action goals and increasing access to EV chargers for all residents and visitors to the area’.
Chris Hanna, Sales Manager at Weev said: “We are delighted to be commencing the installation of EV chargers across Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council area as part of the ORCS contract and being awarded as the Council’s EV Business partner. The growth of EV charger installations and EV car uptake is vital if we are going to reach the net zero targets set by the Government. We are proud to be working with the Council to bring reliable and accessible chargers into local areas which will be fundamental to removing the barriers to transiting to EV for their constituents”.
The next few months will see the roll out of the schemes.
