Business registrations

There are certain businesses that need to register with us from a health & safety point of view.  

These are:

  • hairdressers
  • businesses with a cooling tower
  • businesses that sell insecticides etc.
  • tattooing
  • semi-permanent skin colouring
  • electrolysis
  • acupuncture
  • cosmetic piercing

Hairdressers 

If you are a hairdresser in our area you must be registered with us and comply with local health and safety rules. If the business changes into new ownership, the new owner must also register with us. 

There is no cost to register.

Cooling Towers or Evaporative Condensers Registration 

If you own or control a cooling tower or evaporative condenser located in our area you must register with us as part of the Notification of Cooling Towers and Evaporative Condensers Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1994.
 
This is because cooling towers and evaporative condensers can be a source of Legionnaires Disease, a form of pneumonia caused by the Legionella bacterium.

There is no cost to register.

Poisons Register 

If you sell certain poisons in our council area, you must be registered with us before 1st April each year.

Each premises should be registered separately. 

Some of the poisons which must be registered are usually found in common products such as drain cleaners, kettle descalers, insecticides, pesticides and weedkillers.

It costs £5 to hold poisonous substances.
