To celebrate the start of European Week for Waste Reduction we are joining NI Water in re-launching the Refillution campaign with the installation of our 10th water refill tap at Kilmakee Activity Centre.

Showing his support for the initiative Councillor Caleb McCready, Environment and Sustainability Committee Chair, said “We are encouraging residents and visitors to reduce their use of single-use plastics by switching to reusable water bottles and refilling for free at any of our 10 water refill stations across Lisburn & Castlereagh.

“I’ve got my bottle – have you? If not, why not enter our competition on Vitality Lisburn Castlereagh Facebook to be in with the chance to win one of 10 reusable, insulated, stainless steel water bottles.

“Our 10 refill stations can be found on our website.”

Angela Halpenny, NI Water Head of Environmental Regulation, said ”We are delighted to be re-launching the Refillution campaign in Lisburn and Castlereagh.

“NI Water has a strong focus on the environment and we are committed to tackling the problems caused by plastic bottles which block up our rivers and drains, and pollute our seas. By switching to a reusable bottle, people can help turn the tide in helping to reduce plastic waste.

In the UK, the average person now uses 150 plastic water bottles every year – that’s more than 3 a week. Many are discarded and end up polluting our rivers and seas. If just 1 in 10 people refilled just once a week, we could save around 340 million plastic bottles a year."
