Residents of Lisburn and Castlereagh who wish to boost their numeracy or literacy skills can sign up to the fun, free ‘Gamified Essential Learning Programme’.
This innovative programme will be delivered as part of the Lisburn and Castlereagh Labour Market Partnership Action Plan. It is designed to help local residents achieve an accredited qualification in an interactive non-classroom learning environment.
Funded by the Department for Communities, Labour Market Partnerships create targeted employment action plans for council areas, allowing for collaboration at local and regional level to support people towards and into work.
Between October 2024 to March 2025, this programme will take place at multiple locations across the Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council area. There are 40 spaces available so sign up now!
Alderman Amanda Grehan, Regeneration and Growth Chair, speaking about this innovative programme said: “This unique programme will help support our residents who are over the age of 19 and unemployed or working less than 16 hours a week. By signing up you can improve your employability by mastering skills employers are looking for, opening the door to better job opportunities or promotions.
“We want to motivate participants by making learning feel like a game, where there is a sense of achievement, progress, and sometimes friendly competition. Those taking part may have no formal qualification in numeracy or literacy but this programme will correct that. All participants on completion of their course will gain a recognised qualification in Numeracy or Literacy—without the need to sit for an exam!”
Gamified learning is a teaching approach using game-like elements to make learning more interactive and engaging. It takes the parts of games people enjoy, like earning points, levelling up, completing challenges, or getting rewards and applies them to educational activities.
Instead of just reading a book or solving math problems, participants can earn points or badges for completing tasks. They could move up to higher ‘levels’ as they master new topics or compete with friends to see who can solve a challenge first.
This programme will be delivered by Studyseed CIC on behalf of the Lisburn and Castlereagh Labour Market Partnership.
