Sports Development

Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council recognises the important role that sport and physical activity plays in today's society and that the equitable availability of accessible, high quality sport and leisure provision can enhance the quality of life, health and well-being of the local community.

The Sports Development Unit work specifically to address Sports Development issues and promotion at a community level. The aim is to ensure that as many residents as possible have access to facilities, developmental opportunities and coach/administration education courses that are accessible to all and delivered at a local level.

Clubs and community groups can avail of the expertise needed to secure funding to help with areas such as equipment, coach education and capital development.

The Sports Development Section also takes an active role in many of the internationally recognised sporting events across the City.  The section is directly responsible for the Vitality Membership Lisburn Half Marathon, 10K Road Race and Fun Run.
