Good relations

Since 1998, all Northern Ireland public bodies have a legal duty to promote good relations between people from different community, religious and racial backgrounds.

We deliver a Good Relations Action Plan, which sets out local initiatives that will promote good relations locally under the four key priorities identified in the T:BUC Strategy (Together Building a United Community). This is about the promotion of good relations between people of different religious belief, race or political opinion.

T:BUC Priorities

Our Children & Young People - To continue to improve attitudes amongst our young people and to build a community where they can play a full and active role in building good relations

Our Shared Community - To create a community where division does not restrict the life opportunities of individuals and where all areas are open and accessible to everyone

Our Safe Community - To create a community where everyone feels safe in moving around and where life choices are not inhibited by fears around safety

Our Cultural Expression - To create a community which promotes mutual respect and understanding, is strengthened by its diversity, and where cultural expression is celebrated and embraced

Examples of some of the projects we deliver include:

  • good relations grant aid
  • partnership projects with local community groups, schools
  • provision of training courses
  • delivery of events aimed at promoting good relations

Our Good Relations Programme is 75% part-financed through The Executive Office with the remaining 25% financial commitment being met us.
