Lisburn & Castlereagh City Councils Good Relations Programme invites applications from community group members active in the field of culture, identity and history for participation in a capacity-building project running from September to November 2017. This will be delivered in both Lisburn/Castlereagh through pre-examination workshops, a trip to the Somme and surrounding areas of interest and finished off with post-trip workshops examining the learning from the programme.
Applications are welcome from all parts of the community, especially from organisations working with minority ethnic communities.
Funded in part, by the Executive Office's District Councils Good Relations Programme, this project offers an opportunity for a limited number of community group members to engage in a residential programme around the Centenaries, designed to enhance their organisation's capacity to develop cross-community, international and cross-cultural activities and partnerships.
Participating community group members will complete a 4 day long funded programme in France/Belgium whilst also committing to the pre and post programme workshops.
A nominal participation fee of £100 will apply to the individuals selected, and they must be available and able to travel to France/Belgium during the months of September to November 2017 (date to be confirmed). Travel, accommodation and programme costs are funded by the programme.
Programme Outline
This three-part project aims to improve the capacity of individuals linked to community group members involved in the field of cultural exploration and understanding. It is envisaged that the programme will work to achieve better cohesion and integration; engender a more developed sense of ‘community’ and active participation as citizens; to celebrate and explore the increasing cultural diversity of Northern Ireland’s population; and encourage a more resourceful attitude towards shared spaces and community assets.
