Community Plan progress - Community Plan Action Plan

Action Plans

Given the duration of the community plan it is important that we have regular action plans.  The current plan is for the period 2019-2024.

The agreed actions across our five key themes complement strategic, local and partnership plans that are already in place across central and local government, the community and voluntary sectors.

All the actions are linked to the cross-cutting themes and principles of the above strategies and plans.  These are:

  • sustainable development
  • equality
  • participation
  • co-production and co-design

Action Plan Outcomes

The Lisburn & Castlereagh Community Plan Action Plan will be assessed and delivered through a number of agreed outcomes.  The highlights of these are detailed below:

Outcome 1: Children & Young People

Along with our partners we want to ensure our children and young people have the best start in life.  This will be delivered through the following actions:

  • children in care deserve equal opportunities to overcome the many disadvantages they face.  By working together the Partnership will find ways to support and encourage all looked after children to give them the best start in life
  • support a ‘youth council’ which will allow young people to have a voice in our community and work together to deliver on matters that are important to their peers.  They will do this through collaborative working while developing leadership, communication and citizenship skills
  • as part of ‘Early Years’ we will work to ensure that our younger residents with speech, language and communication challenges have been offered opportunities to improve their chances in life and learning

Outcome 2: The Economy

Along with our partners we want to ensure everyone benefits from a vibrant economy.  This will be delivered through the following actions:

  • provide opportunities for existing businesses to grow, increase export sales and future-proof their organisation
  • increase social enterprise opportunities to develop employment opportunities and skill development

Outcome 3: Health & Wellbeing

Along with our partners we want to ensure we live healthy, fulfilling and long lives.  This will be delivered through the following actions:

  • increase physical activity for all age groups across the Lisburn and Castlereagh area to improve both physical and mental wellbeing
  • through an Age-Friendly Alliance deliver activities and support to our older residents to reduce isolation and ensure their safety and wellbeing
  • raise awareness of the importance of good mental health and the support available locally

Outcome 4: Environment

Along with our partners we want to ensure we live and work in attractive, resilient and environmentally friendly places.  This will be delivered through the following actions:

  • address the need for increased housing stock to meet the demands of the population demographic of the council area
  • promote sustainable transport and increase the availability of public transport within the Lisburn and Castlereagh area

Outcome 5: Communities

Along with our partners we want to ensure we live in empowered, harmonious, safe and welcoming communities.  This will be delivered through the following actions:

  • ensure the vulnerable in our community have the necessary support
  • increase community participation to encourage a sense of ownership and civic pride
  • increase the number of volunteers in the council area and ensuring their hard work and commitment is recognised
