Ceremony location

Citizenship ceremonies are currently held in either Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council’s headquarters at Lagan Valley Island, Lisburn or in Northern Ireland’s Royal Residence, Hillsborough Castle.

Lagan Valley Island is located right in the city centre, just one mile from the M1 motorway and approximately 8 miles from Belfast.

Hillsborough Castle is located approximately 5 miles from Lisburn City Centre.  The full address is as follows:

Accessibility

Lagan Valley Island is easily accessed on foot, by car or public transport. It welcomes all visitors, regardless of age or ability and is proud to offer excellent accessible facilities throughout the building.

Citizens may park in the Forecourt directly outside the main gates, and behind the Hillsborough Court House, off Main Street, Hillsborough.  DO NOT follow any brown signs directing you to Hillsborough Castle. 

There are regular bus services from central Belfast to Hillsborough.  Buses leave from Europa Bus Station.  Alight at the War Memorial in Hillsborough.  From here it is a five minute walk uphill.

The nearest train stations to the Castle are Lisburn and Moira train stations.

Parking

Ample visitor parking is available at Lagan Valley Island, including 15 disabled bays.

There is onsite parking for up to 30 cars at Hillsborough Castle, with special access arrangements if required.
