Book of Condolence for The Duchess of Kent

The Duchess was widely admired for her compassion, humility and quiet dedication to public service. She was a reassuring presence during many significant moments in our national life and worked tirelessly, often behind the scenes, to support causes close to her heart. Her 1980 visit to Northern Ireland with The Duke of Kent marked a poignant and hopeful chapter in the region’s history, reflecting her deep belief in reconciliation and peace.

The Mayor of Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council, Alderman Amanda Grehan | The Duchess showed great compassion and empathy for everyone she met. By visiting Northern Ireland with The Duke of Kent in 1980 on the first official Royal visit to Northern Ireland since the murder of Earl Mountbatten, The Duchess demonstrated her quest to deliver the message of hope and peace. Her volunteering at the Passage homelessness charity and taking 13 years out of Royal life to teach music in a primary school show how she cares for others and wants to give her time to help improve their future. I extend my heartfelt condolences to The Duke of Kent, his children and grandchildren and the wider Royal Family as they mourn their loss. May we reflect on the Duchess of Kent and the lives she touched across the world carrying the message of hope and peace. |
David Burns, Chief Executive of Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council | The Duchess of Kent spent decades representing the Royal Family across the world. She was committed to helping improve the lives of others whether that be teaching music, volunteering with charities, or listening to those who lost loved ones in difficult circumstances. As a fan of tennis she was no stranger to Wimbledon and I remember her consoling a tearful Jana Novotna in 1993 and then five years later presenting the trophy to the Czech tennis star. My thoughts are with the Duke of Kent and his family as well as the wider Royal Family who will support him in the coming period. |
