Positive Ageing Month 2022 celebrates ageing and the contribution and agency of older people.

The theme of Positive Ageing Month 2022 is Challenging Ageism - Reframing How We Think, Feel and Act about older age.

Anyone and everyone can participate in Positive Ageing Month. Community-based events, organised by groups or individuals as well as national events are encouraged, to reflect the diversity of experience and situation of older people.

Positive Ageing Month is held throughout the month of October and gives people the opportunity to sample activities, taster sessions and informative talks that will help develop knowledge and promote a more active lifestyle.

As we are all aware, older people have been facing challenges with mental health, loneliness and isolation due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. We want to help to support our older generation and encourage them back out into their communities and groups to build confidence and self-esteem.

A month-long festival of events and activities for older people has been developed for your enjoyment. Positive Ageing Month celebrates the contribution older people make to their communities. The Northern Ireland Age Friendly Network along with local Age Friendly Coordinators have worked in partnership with other organisations to bring a calendar of events during the month of October to be delivered in person and online via Zoom that you can participate in free of charge. They range from:

• Exercise classes
• Nutrition advice
• Health messages
• Discussion panels
• Virtual Tea Dance
• Celebration Events

There are activities taking place across council facilities and partner organisations for older people.

We hope you enjoy Positive Ageing Month and take the opportunity to access many of the events and activities on offer.

Mindfulness is a great way to calm the mind, reduce anxiety and connect with the present moment. It's called a practice because it takes time to learn.
