Household Recycling Centres are now open with restrictions in place. Please click here for full information

There are three recycling centres within the Council area.  These are located at:

  • The Cutts, Derriaghy, BT17 9HN
  • Drumlough, Dromara Road, Hillsborough, BT26 6QA
  • Carryduff, 8 Comber Road, BT8 8AN

Users are advised of the following:

  1. Segregate recyclable materials before visiting the Centre.
  2. Ask a Centre attendant if you are unsure if a recycling facility is available for the materials you wish to recycle.
  3. Recyclable materials cannot be disposed of in general waste skips. It is essential that only non-recyclable materials are disposed in the general waste skips.
  4. All users must adhere to Centre rules and signage.
  5. Scavenging of waste is not permitted at the Centre at any time.
  6. Climbing on containers or barriers at the Centre is strictly prohibited.

General Waste Disposal

Skips are provided at the Centre for the disposal of general waste. A large proportion of the material placed in these skips ends up in landfill.

Household Recycling Centres No Longer Accepting Waste Domestic Heating Oil Tanks: As a result of updated guidance issued by the Northern Ireland Environment Agency (NIEA) in relation to the Management of Waste Domestic Heating Oil Tanks, from Monday 27 January 2020 the Council will no longer be able to accept waste domestic heating oil tanks at its Household Recycling Centres.  In addition the Council will also not accept this waste for collection through the Bulky Collection Service.  Householders are advised to contact a specialist contractor who are authorised and licensed to collect, store and dispose of the tanks.

1. Commercial waste (waste arising from a trade or business)

To dispose of trade or business waste at a Council HRC you will need to have a Commercial Waste Disposal Ticket issued by the Council. Commercial waste is chargeable according to the size of the vehicle or trailer. Site staff will check that Disposal tickets are valid.
