Local schools take part in Ulster-Scots Language Week

November 25, 2021

This week is Ulster-Scots Language Week (22-26 November) and the council has created a programme of activities for all ages as part of its Good Relations programme supported by the Ulster-Scots Agency.

Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council’s Good Relations programme is funded by the Northern Ireland Executive Office.

Councillor Sharon Skillen, Leisure & Community Development Chair, visiting Moneyrea Primary School, said: “I enjoyed the opportunity to visit one of our local primary schools taking part in the storytelling element of our Ulster-Scots Language Week programme. I would like to thank the Ulster-Scots Agency for its support in this initiative which educated our young people in a fun way about local heritage.”

Councillor Thomas Beckett, Vice-Chair of the council’s Leisure & Community Development Committee added: “I welcome the varied programme for Ulster-Scots Language Week.  There are elements of music, culture and education and I hope everyone enjoys learning more about Ulster-Scots.”
