Council supports launch of free local tennis App

February 22, 2017

Tennis is a sport enjoyed by many across the Council area and a free App has been developed to ensure that all keen players are aware of events taking place in the Wallace Park Indoor Tennis Centre, which is three floodlit tennis courts and currently managed on behalf of the Council by Tennis Fundamentals.

The ‘Play More Tennis’ (PMT) App was developed by Tennis Fundamentals’, Brian Cushnie with assistance from Invest NI.  Events listed at present on the App include the new ‘Singles Box Leagues’ and Cardio Tennis Classes.

Councillor Tim Morrow, Chairman of the Council’s Leisure & Community Development Committee, launching the App, said: “The Council is delighted this tennis App will allow beginners, amateurs and professionals to post when they wish to play a game of tennis and find other players of their ability to make up singles and doubles matches.  Through the introduction of a Tennis Dome from September to May, Brian has offered the opportunity for the tennis courts to be playable in all weathers and he offers a variety of fun and competitive events throughout the year to increase uptake in the sport locally; and also to add variety to the routine of regular players.  I would like to congratulate Brian and his team and encourage all local residents to download the App and ‘get on the court’.”

Online court bookings are due to be added to the App later this year as well as developing the system to make it available for use by other tennis clubs and facilities.  Brian Cushnie (Tennis Development Manager) explained: “The ultimate aim of the App is that regardless of where people are they will be able to find an opponent at their level and enjoy a game of tennis.   Coaches and tennis directors will also be able to simply post details of an event and everyone who it is applicable to will receive a notification immediately.  I am delighted to have it working for our facility in Lisburn and would welcome feedback on its ease of use and any further development suggestions users may have.”

If you live in the Lisburn Castlereagh area please download the PMT App from the App Store or follow the links from the website
