We have a proud history of sporting success with athletes and teams representing the council area in major competitions, including most recently the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham

“This year’s awards ceremony will focus on women in sport, which is very poignant after the success of female teams and individuals this summer. I am particularly looking forward to hearing from our special guests Lady Mary Peters who is celebrating the 50th Anniversary of her famous Olympic Gold Medal as well as NI Netball Coach, Elaine Rice who has just returned from coaching the NI Team at the Commonwealth Games.

“The closing date to make a nomination for the Sports Awards is Friday 30th September at 5pm. I would encourage everyone to take the time to nominate an individual, club or school whose achievements might otherwise go unnoticed”, concluded Councillor McIntyre.

Jimmy Walker, Chairperson of Sport Lisburn & Castlereagh added, “I am delighted that Sport Lisburn & Castlereagh can work in partnership with Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council to recognise those who have achieved so much in sport over the last year.

“I am aware of the many hours of training, which are dedicated each week in pursuit of excellence in sport, particularly at competitive level. There are also many unsung heroes whose valuable technical support and coaching inspire others to reach their potential.

“I would like to thank Drayne’s Farm for kindly sponsoring the awards and I hope many clubs and individuals will be encouraged to take the time to make a nomination and celebrate the wealth of sporting greatness in Lisburn & Castlereagh.”
