Industrial action updates

The Council is making every effort to deliver services during the period of industrial action.

Whilst a strike is ongoing, there are limitations to what the Council can do to minimise the impact of service disruption.

Under NI legislation, additional agency staff cannot be used to cover the duties of striking workers. Whilst contractors can be used, they have confirmed that they do not have capacity to deliver services on behalf of the Council at this time.

The Council’s three Household Recycling Centres will operate extended opening hours from 5 October as below to provide some assistance whilst waste collection services are disrupted.

Monday – Thursday - 8.00am – 6.00pm
Friday & Saturday - 8.00 – 5.00pm

Council recognises the challenges for residents caused as a result of service disruption and remains committed to finding a resolution.

Please continue to visit the Council website for the latest information on service delivery during the strike action where updates will be posted regularly.

Monday – Thursday - 8.00am – 6.00pm
Friday & Saturday - 8.00 – 5.00pm

Due to the high numbers of customers accessing our Household Recycling Centres it is necessary to limit the number of bags of household waste for disposal per vehicle to 6 with immediate effect. This applies regardless of size of vehicle. Customers are reminded to please have their waste sorted before arrival to speed up their visit and reduce queueing times.

Access to the recycling centres is restricted to Lisburn Castlereagh residents only. Please have your photographic ID with proof of address available for inspection on arrival. If your photographic ID does not show your address you should also bring a recent utility bill.
